So you have some cool stuff that you don't use anymore? You think someone has some cool stuff that they're not using too? Have a great business but it still needs stuff? Think your business has something to offer to someone else?
You’ve probably thought about building a better website, having the dirty carpet cleaned, or even redesigning your office space.... there’s a lot of things that you need that you know would improve your business, but just don’t know how to go about getting them done - and for FREE!!
Look no further!!
Come to Hawaii’s first and only Barter Bar event, where goods and services are exchanged, and cash is obsolete! Barter Bar is a networking experience like no other, created to fill the gaps that many small businesses have, but don’t know how to go about accomplishing. Our event coordinators have diligently sought out other forward thinking businesses in and around Honolulu who can all contribute helpful items and services that will help your business grow. It is our belief that one hand washes the other, and Barter Bar is a clear example of how this works.
No skill or service is too limited, as you never know what someone wants or needs! Restaurants need photography, and photographers need to eat. Lawyers need landscaping, and landscapers need legal advice. Boutique owners need handymen and we sure hope handymen need clothes! Pretty simple, right?
So here how we play the Barter Bar game:
Come down to Fresh Cafe every 3rd Thursday at 7pm. Everyone brings in their cool trades to be set up on a “silent auction” style table. You’ll be given a Barter Bill that you can place with your offers, and one that you can post on an adjoining table, stating what your business needs. Each bill is color coded for easy identification. For the next hour you are encouraged to enjoy a cocktail, meet other professionals, and see what’s on the trading floor - but no trades are encouraged until all items have been submitted.
At 8pm submissions are closed, and the featured business of the month will have a few moments to speak about what their business wants and needs. Next, the trading bell will be rung - signaling all trades to begin. For the next two hours you can write on
individual barter bills, indicating what it is that you have to trade. If you see something on your own “wants” bill that you like before the event is over, you are free to remove your own item, since your trade has been satisfied.
At 10pm the trading floor is closed and everyone gets to take their trades home! New relationships and connections have been formed, and you were able to get all those pesky tasks completed for FREE!!
Now here are some cool tips to make sure you get the most from your experience:
1-Make sure you bring clear information about what you have to offer and what you need. Promo fliers, voided gift certificates, photography or pamphlets work as great visual aids for other barterers to see what it is that you want to trade, or what you have to offer.
2-Bring plenty of business cards! You never know who you’ll meet while sharing a cocktail and discussing business with other business owners. If you’re single, cute girls/guys count too!
3-Make sure you’ve got your cell phones handy! You can make sure to get a hold of your barter buddies before the end of the event, as well as interact with our live Instagram feed. Don’t forget to use #BarterBar to connect with other cool barterers as well!
4-If you’ve got interesting things to trade such as fresh produce, beauty products or even electronics, it’s best to present them as bundle instead of individual submissions. A basket of fresh organic fruits trades better than a bag of apples, and you definitely want to put yourself in a position to barter with the best of them!
5-For bulkier items (larger than a shoe box) we recommend you bring a visual aid or photo of the item.
6-All services are bartered on an honor system. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you, and this will be a huge success for everyone! (You accept all responsibility for all barters & trades)
Barter Bar will be at Fresh Cafe every 3rd Thursday at 7pm and will feature the most influential businesses in Honolulu. Please make sure you follow us on Facebook and Instagram for updates and to contact us directly.
